§ 1. Range of application
These rules apply for the entire anadromous stretch of the Lakselva River, including subsidiary streams and lakes.
§ 2. Definitions
By anadromous species it’s meant salmon, sea trout and sea char.
By freshwater fish it means all other fish in the watercourse that is not anadromous including perch, grayling, pike, brown trout and burbot. By salmon it is meant all salmon that cannot be defined as escaped farmed salmon or pacific salmon (rainbow trout, humpback salmon etc.) by outer characteristics.
By winter fish it is meant salmon, sea trout or sea char which have spawned in the autumn and have spent the winter in the river.
§ 3. Requirement for disinfection of fishing equipment
Your fishing licence is not valid unless you have a proof of desinfection to go with it. Fishing equipment, waders and other apparel which has been used outside the borders of Finnmark MUST be disinfected before used in Lakselva.
Disinfection of equipment applies to the entire river stretch.
All boats, canoes, cayaks etc. being used on Lakselva must go through a separat desinfection, or be registered at Lakselv land owner's association. Desinfection of boats can be carried out at Skoganvarre Tourist Centre. Boats which lack proper proof of desinfection will be removed.
§ 4. Fishing license is personal and cannot be transferred to others
Fishing license is strictly personal and cannot be transferred to others. Valid identification (bank card, passport, driving license) must be presented when buying a fishing license and must be carried during fishing, and presented on request from bailiff and other control authority together with fishing license, fishing charge card and a certificate of disinfection.
Fishing licence is not valid without presentation of identification.
It is the duty of the bearer of the fishing licence to give catch summary without regard to catch outcome.
§ 5. Grounds where the fishing licence applies
Your fishing license is only valid on the parts of the river which is under the control of the Lakselv house owners association. Private properties are labelled in accordance with the regulations.
§ 6. Minimum size, winter fish and release
The fisherman can only keep salmon and sea trout at a minimum size of 30 centimetres. Smaller fish must be treated cautiously and released back into the watercourse immediately.
The fish is measured from the cleft in the tail to the end of the nose. It is the fishermens duty to bring a measure, for example a mark of 80 centimetres on the fishing rod. If there is any doubt the salmon must be released. Fish which is harmed and cannot be released must be reported immediately to the supervision for Lakselv house owners’ association.
Released fish must be reported as released fish.
§ 7. Use of equipment
As fishing tackle, the following is allowed: flies, worms (without sinker), spoons, spinners and wobblers. Fishing with shrimp is not allowed. You are only allowed to use one treble hook or tre individual hooks on the lure.
From 1. August and throughout the season:
- Maximum lure size is 12 grams.
- Only floating fly line is allowed. Fly line with part of the line sinking is not allowed.
In zone 5, with exception of protection zones, flies, worms (without sinker), spoons, spinners and wobblers are allowed troughout the entire season.
When buying “Dry fly card” in zone 3 and 4 the following equipment restriction
applies:
- It is only permitted to fish with floating lines
- Maximum allowed hook-size 10.
- Maximum allowed rod class and fish line weight is AFTM # 6.
§ 8. Quota
Quotas are personal and can not be transferred to others.
- Each fisherman is only permitted to catch a total of three -3- wild salmon longer than 80 centimetres per season. Of these 3, only two -2 are allowed to be female.
- Each fisherman is only permitted to catch 2 wild salmons per 24 hours.
§ 9. Fishing period and protection zones
The fishing period for the watercourse with restrictions according to protection zones and limitations regarding equipment.
Fishing period salmon 10th of June 0000 to 31th of August 2400.
Fishing period sea trout 10th of June 0000 to 31th of August 2400.
Fishing period sea trout zone 1st of September 0000 to 14th of September 2400.
Sea char is preserved in watercourse, and it is strictly forbidden to kill sea char.
§ 10. Protection zones in watercourse
Skoganvarre, waterwork preserved for salmon fishing from 31st July at 2400 (rapids upstream the Skoganvarre bridge).
Zone 4 (Goutko) preserved for fishing salmon larger than 80 cm from July 31st at 2400.
Territories in Voullajohka preserved for salmon fishing from 31st July at 2400.
When fishing for other species than salmon, the same equipment restrictions as for “Dry fly card” applies.
§ 11. Further fishing restrictions or closure
Lakselv house owners’ associations’ board can introduce additional restrictions in use of equipment and fishing if there is little anodromous fish run to the watercourse. The Lakselv house owners association might decide to protect female salmon and make the killing of female salmon prohibited. The Lakselv house owners association could also decide to create bigger protection zones, or prohibit fishing completely if the fishing is at an extreme low.
§ 12. Net and otter fishing
Fishing with net and otter is forbidden in the entire watercourse.
§ 13. Rotating fishing
Rotating fish shall be practised in Lakselva. All fishermen have equal rights to fish through the pool.
We request that all salmon bigger than 3 kg/66cm is to be treated gently and released back into the watercourse after the 31th of July
